My art school alumni and fellow artists have asked me several times how to mix the color for skin
I love to answer this with a quote of Egene Delacoix : I can paint you the skin of Venus with mud, provided you let me surround it with colors of my choice.
But the correct reply can only be a question: "the skin of what a person ? north European, Mediterranean, African , eastern.. ? and even more important, in what light conditions ??

Here is a good sample of how the skin of a single face can be yellow, orange, and red and you will think it might be real since if the model is kissed by the colored sunset light

I love this words; and made it mine the first time i heard them because the perfectly describe the way I see reality and art: curiosity and careful observation are the keys to find wonderful things all around us !

The Greek mermaid, oil on canvas, 2021
This painting has been my contribution to the Italian section of the 35x35 project of Copelouzos Art Family Museum of Athens

Selected artis receive a canvas with size 35x35 cm to paint a free subject, the artwork will be part of the permanent exhibition in the Copelouzos Art Family Museum as dialog of Greek artist with other from every part of the world.

The Museum’s collection mainly focuses on established and progressive contemporary artists from different art movements (pop art, abstract, etc.) and countries (from Europe, Asia, US, Latin America). Art works of Warhol, Botero, Dubuffet, Kounellis, Wesselmann, Boetti, Gilbert & George, Indiana, Kippenberger, Hirst, Zhang Xiaogang, Kusama etc, are exhibited at the Museum.

I have chosen to paint one of my favorite subjects: a mermaid in this case with a evident Mediterranean feature, I wanted to celebrate the Greek land and people that I like so much.

I this 18 years it has been used hundreds of times for authorized and unauthorized reproductions

Today I received the great news that the court of Illinois have ordered a Temporary Restraining Order to several platforms that are selling products based on my artworks without authorization and have to freeze the sellers' accounts.

but being the contrary of light it can be a powerful way to exalt it

This is my cat Bubu, the painting is based on a photo that I made of him in the sunset light in high grass,
Bubu disappeared one day without warning and explanation so I decided not to sell the painting and keep it in memory of my pet.

In this time frame I thought sometimes the painting was finished but after a while I move on to new version driven by the voice of the mermaid itself until finally this year all the pieces fit together
